NLHS clinical evaluation

The evaluation of students is critical to their leadership learning and advancement of their critical reasoning and decision making skills. Preceptors should evaluate students twice each semester (midway through the semester and at the end of the semester). Identifying a student’s strengths and opportunities with objective feedback allows them time for reflection and leadership knowledge and skill expansion. All NLHS graduates should meet the Masters of Nursing Essentials and the American Organization of Nurse Executive Manager’s Competencies. The goal of the practicum experience is to expand student learning about leadership through experiential learning. This learning process looks different for each student.

It is the student’s responsibility to provide the evaluation form to the preceptor. After the evaluation form is complete, reviewed, and signed, it is the student’s responsibility to submit the form in the course by the course due date. This form (see sample below) shows a student’s progress over time and follows a 1–5 scale based of the amount of guidance a student requires for each criterion at the time of the evaluation.
